Bitcoin surged 5.3% in one go today, breaking above 84,600. SOL rose 7.1%, and XRP gained 7.7%. A few days ago, it was the leaders pulling the market while the smaller coins followed slowly. Today, it’s the whole layer-1 sector collectively seeing a surge in volume—its nature is different.

SUI is up 22%, with trading volume of $206 million, the most intense among the top three by volume. SUI is the native token of the Sui chain. This move is related to the renewed activity in the ecosystem. On-chain data and price are moving in sync higher, making it the best “quality” in this round.

NEAR is up 20.6%, with $343 million in trading volume—the largest across the entire market. NEAR’s AI-and-chain abstraction narrative has been trending stronger for several days. Today’s volume breakout and acceleration suggest that capital is steadily adding, not just a one-day move.

AVAX is up 15.6%, with $156 million in trading volume. Avalanche is the most overdue-to-be-undervalued among the mainstream layer-1 chains. This rally has moved in line with the layer-1 sector’s catch-up, and the price action has been the steadiest.

My view is very straightforward: today risk appetite has broadly rebounded, and the layer-1 sector is seeing volume across the board. In this kind of market, choosing the leader matters more than choosing an “out-of-control” coin. SUI and NEAR have both volume and a narrative—they’re what I’m most willing to follow. But Bitcoin is up 5% in a day, and sentiment is already at a high level. Chasing higher must come with a stop-loss; only if the pullback doesn’t break below 82,000 can we say this move has truly held and stabilized.
