This VAX run was truly sparked by the news flow—both the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and ICE are testing tokenized securities on the chains that use it, and even asset management giant New York Life, with an over-$80 billion scale, announced it would move its first tokenized fund to Avalanche via Centrifuge. After the news broke, it jumped nearly 20% in a single day. I chased a more-than-75x long position into the 10.491 level; however, the spike couldn’t sustain, then rolled over and got dumped all the way down to the 9.819 stop-loss. The return was -485.42%.
I went in based on the logic that “institutional-level good news is still being digested,” but the problem is that by the time I entered, this surge had already climbed to nearly 20%—basically buying into the peak of the most euphoric momentum.
Later I noticed that behind this rally, open interest actually shrank by more than 15%, which means this pump wasn’t driven by fresh leveraged capital. Random indicators had already reached the overbought zone at 87, and the MACD histogram also flattened—these are classic signs of momentum exhaustion. It’s just that when I chased in, I didn’t look closely at these indicators.
This loss hurts a lot. The fundamental news is indeed genuinely positive, but the technical setup had already been warning signals. When you chase price without checking indicators—only the headlines—you're bound to step into a trap like this at least once.
