The Fed hiked rates, yet $BTC actually rose 6.1% in just two days.
After the Fed raised rates by 25 basis points on September 16, BTC climbed from $76,209 that day to $80,844 on September 18. Fed announcement · market data source
I pulled up how BTC performed after the first two rounds of rate hikes:
First rate hike date 7 days later 30 days later
December 16, 2015 −2.5% −21.2%
March 16, 2022 +4.5% −1.3%
Using the daily quote on the day of the rate hike as the starting point, and calculating by calendar days; the historical sample includes two rounds.
For the 2022 case, if you only look at the first week, you’d think BTC doesn’t really fear rate hikes.
Three more weeks later, the gains have been fully given back.
This rebound really is strong. But between “it rose in two days” and “it’s safe going forward,” there’s still a lot of evidence missing.
