#香港拟年底前推出批发CBDC

Hong Kong won’t be rolling out a digital HKD for ordinary people at the end of the year—it’s aiming for a wholesale CBDC for use in the banking interbank market.

Cross-bank settlement still has to wait for RTGS to go live; tokenized deposits, government bills, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) after-hours derivatives often fail to clear overnight. The purpose of wCBDC is to complete this “last mile”: once assets are already on-chain, the funds must also be settled using central bank money on a 24-hour basis.

This doesn’t step on stablecoins’ toes. Institutions use central bank money for final settlement, while external payments can still use licensed stablecoins. What really matters isn’t the headline—it’s whether, by year-end, it’s actually running with real money: across banks and during non-business hours.
