The futures market is often mistaken as a homogeneous trading arena, but in reality there are huge differences between different contracts in terms of their microstructure, the logic of capital games, and institutional constraints. For most traders, losses usually don’t come from failed technical analysis or fluctuations in mindset, but from misjudging the “niche” or market position of a specific contract. Out of over 80 listed products, some contracts—due to their special contract design, liquidity characteristics, or macro sensitivity—create extremely high implicit trading costs. Even if you have mature trend-following or arbitrage strategies, forcing your way into these “high-friction” contracts easily puts you in a situation where you’re passively getting hit.
