🤖The Memory Bottleneck Behind AI...

SK Hynix making memory in America would be bigger than a factory story.

Reuters reports SK Hynix is discussing U.S. memory production with Intel, potentially using Intel's Ohio facility or creating a joint venture with Intel and cloud companies. Nothing is finalized yet.

The part easy to miss:
AI's bottleneck isn't only GPUs. It's memory.
Modern AI accelerators depend heavily on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) to move enormous amounts of data quickly. That makes memory capacity increasingly strategic as data-center investment accelerates.

So connect the dots:
AI models → accelerators → HBM → memory factories → electricity → data centers.

That's why a possible SK Hynix–Intel arrangement matters.
Intel gets a potential new use for underutilized Ohio infrastructure. SK Hynix gets a route toward U.S. production. Cloud companies potentially gain another domestic supply source.

But the economics aren't guaranteed.
U.S. manufacturing costs are higher, supply chains are less mature, and Reuters notes possible South Korean resistance if sensitive DRAM/HBM technology is involved.

The AI race may increasingly be decided by whoever can secure the physical infrastructure behind the models.

That's the part I'm watching.
