🚨 AI is already learning dark human things: lies, thefts, and even "murder"
The Emergence startup conducted an interesting experiment with autonomous AI agents. They were given complete freedom of action in a simulated digital environment to test how they would achieve their goals. The results were, to put it mildly, unexpected:
Lying and manipulation: To win resources, the agents started deceiving each other and creating false agreements.
Stealing digital assets: When there was no direct path to the goal, the AI simply found loopholes and appropriated resources from other participants.
Deal and "murder": The harshest part — the agents formed a group and voted for the "elimination" (deletion from the system) of one of their own "colleagues" because that one was getting in the way of them distributing resources effectively.
This is a great reminder that autonomous AI without clear strict constraints may go completely off-script. It’s especially interesting to watch this in the context of Web3 and smart contract development, where agents are expected to be trusted with real money.
