Privacy Vaults just broke 40 million—why is Zama rushing to push private swaps on Ethereum?

💡 Slightly bullish overall: real demand for on-chain privacy infrastructure has been validated, but it has limited direct impact on coin prices.

Zama expanded its Morpho privacy vaults from 12 to 16, and also launched private swap functionality on Ethereum.

What’s going on
According to The Block, the first Morpho privacy vault built with fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) reached a size of $40 million. For a privacy-infrastructure track, that number isn’t small. Seizing the momentum, they now let users connect to 12 existing Morpho vaults on Ethereum in a privacy-preserving way. In addition, they created 4 new pure-privacy vaults, and also rolled out a private swaps feature. Simply put: previously, when you deposited in Morpho to earn interest, your positions and yields were fully exposed on-chain; now you can use FHE to hide those positions—others can’t see how much you deposited or how much you earned.

In one sentence: DeFi’s “anonymous deposits” proof-of-concept has moved from concept validation to scaled replication.

Market impact
- Short term: This is an infrastructure-layer update, not something that directly changes liquidity. BTC is currently at $75,898.01 (-2.37%), ETH at $2,404.74 (-3.83%). Altcoins are falling even harder; XRP is -8.23% over the past 24 hours. In this environment, it’s hard for a privacy feature rollout to pull prices up against the trend—at most it adds a bit to the ETH ecosystem narrative.
- Mid term: What’s worth paying attention to is regulation. The cautionary tale of Tornado Cash is already there. If FHE can achieve “privacy but still auditable,” regulatory acceptance would be much higher. The $40 million in existing deposits shows that institutions and large holders genuinely have this need—this could become a story about institutional capital later on.

My take
Short-term: wait and see, neutral overall. ETH itself is weak around $2,404.74, and a privacy infrastructure headline alone can’t support a rebound; the key is whether the support near $2,404.74 can hold. But in the mid term, I’m more optimistic about the FHE narrative. Zama is one of the most technically solid teams in this space, and $40 million isn’t a number they could just “manufacture.” I’m about 70% confident; the remaining 30% I’ll leave to the market. If I’m wrong, feel free to lightly critique—this is just a small position I’m watching.
