The U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act.

On September 16, the CLARITY Act vote entered the final stage. A total of 89 lawmakers have had their votes counted so far, with 46 ayes and 43 nays.

Since this procedural vote requires at least 60 ayes to pass, based on the current vote tally, and assuming no one changes their vote, it is essentially certain that it cannot be passed.

This vote result only means that the CLARITY Act is temporarily unable to enter the Senate’s formal consideration process. It does not mean the bill is permanently dead, nor does it indicate that the bill has been definitively rejected. It means the Senate cannot conclude the procedural debate over whether to move the bill forward to consideration, so the bill is temporarily barred from proceeding to the discussion of subsequent amendments.
