Tell the most memorable trading mistake that left an impression on me.
It was when I was just starting to build quantitative trading systems.
The system generated a short signal. I looked at it and thought, “The direction isn’t right,” so I didn’t execute.
If I had executed that trade, the profit factor would have been 4R.
Even more terrifying was that later I “made my own judgment” and went long, and then I got stopped out.
That day taught me something:
I designed the system because I don’t trust my own intuition.
If I don’t trust the system, then what’s the point of having one?
From that day on, I no longer “overrode” the system’s signals.
