At noon I刷到 a post. Someone asked: If you could go back four years, what would you most want to tell your former self?
The comments were all sorts of things. Most people said things like “You definitely have to buy BTC” or “Sell your house and go all-in.” But after thinking about it, if I really could go back, what I’d want to tell myself wouldn’t be that.
I would tell that version of myself: Don’t touch futures contracts.
Four years ago, like many new people, I thought spot trading was too slow—tenfold or hundredfold leverage was what felt exciting. Back then, luck was on my side; I caught a run of market momentum and my account multiplied several times. I felt like I’d been chosen by fate, like I was a trading genius. What happened later? A pullback came, and within a few days I had given everything back—principal and all—and even ended up losing money on top of that.
That period was rough. I couldn’t sleep, every day doubting myself. Only later did I finally understand a truth: money you make on luck will eventually be lost back by skill.
Futures contracts, in the short term, really can make you get rich quickly. But in the long run, almost nobody can consistently make money through contracts. It’s not that the technology isn’t good—it’s that human nature isn’t. You might win ten times, but if you lose just once, you could wipe out all your progress. And once someone has won a few big times, they can’t go back to small positions.
If I really could go back, I wouldn’t tell myself what coin to buy, when to buy, or when to sell.
I would only say one thing: Don’t touch leverage—hold spot the honest way.
Sure, it’s slower—at least you can live to make it to today.
