VOO 10-Year Deal ~15.3%: Often at the bottom of the growth list—don’t think it’s junk

Over the past 10 years, VOO’s annualized return has been about 15.3%. Among a bunch of Vanguard growth/tech-focused ETFs, it’s often used as the “bottom” benchmark—VGT is about 24.5%, roughly double the feel.

Don’t take it to mean “VOO is junk.” The peer list is mostly growth/tech tilts like MGK, VUG, and VGT. In 2022, VGT saw a drawdown of about -30%, while VOO was around -18%. A decade-long tech bull market has widened the spread; that doesn’t mean the next decade will look the same.

For a default broad-market pick, it’s still that cheap one. If you’re chasing annualized returns, first ask yourself whether you can withstand industry-concentrated drawdowns.
