According to TechFlow, Hayden Adams, founder of Uniswap, wrote on the X platform: "Uniswap deliberately chose to build the user interface (UI) in an open source way because we hope that people can fork it. But the brand is very different from a decentralized protocol or open source interface. The Uniswap brand can be used in a variety of ways, but there are restrictions in the trademark policy. Being able to fork the user interface helps increase decentralization. If the user interface run by Uniswap fails, it is important that people can still access the protocol; this also accelerates innovation and provides public products for the field."
Hayden Adams pointed out that “forking with brands does not increase decentralization, but may mislead and harm users. Unlike immutable on-chain protocols, interface forks run by different teams have different security properties, and trademark policies make it possible for scam sites to be shut down.” Adams believes that people should not agree that brands should be completely permissionless and decentralized like blockchain or DeFi protocols.
