Last year, a beginner came to see me. He only had 600U in his account. The first time he placed a trade, his hands were shaking.
I didn’t talk to him about which “moonshot” coin to buy. I only said one thing:
Don’t think about how much you can earn first—learn how to survive.
Later, I only had him follow three rules:
1️⃣ Money must be split
600U is divided into three parts: one for short-term trades, one saved for truly trending opportunities, and the last one always stays on the sidelines.
The smaller your capital is, the less you can go all-in. Because you don’t have many chances to make big mistakes.
2️⃣ Don’t trade when there’s no trend
Range-bound markets look exciting, but they’re actually the most exhausting for your account.
Chase in today, cut out tomorrow—after being busy all day, you end up working for the fees.
When there’s no structure, just wait. Only act when the trend truly shows up. Waiting is, by itself, a trading skill.
3️⃣ If you’re wrong, admit it—never try to “win it back” by averaging down
Once your stop-loss is hit, you leave. If you’re in profit, exit first and lock in part of it.
What I fear most is not taking responsibility when you lose—thinking that if you add a bit more, the cost will come down.
A small loss dragged out becomes a big loss. Many accounts get killed just like that.
His biggest change afterward wasn’t that his indicators got more accurate—it was that he finally stopped being in a rush.
Before, he chased opportunities every day. Now he only waits for opportunities.
So I always say: having a small principal isn’t scary.
