LAPTOP is really live today: contract address released, TRUMP got hammered, but yesterday's "fake coin warning" also came true
Yesterday I wrote a preview about Hunter Biden planning to launch a LAPTOP meme coin. Back then I said, "The official contract won't be published until September 9, and all the LAPTOP on the market right now are fake coins." Today, it really went live—at 8:00 tonight Beijing time, LAPTOP was officially deployed on Coinbase's Base chain, with contract address 0xB095274743941e953c746F9C228DA9c18Bb6ec29.
**First, look at the official "final" tokenomics (which differs from the WSJ report)**
The total supply remains 1 billion unchanged, but the allocations published on the official site are not exactly the same as the version reported earlier by the WSJ; we should go by the official site:
- **Founding Team 30%**: tokens are locked, then gradually unlocked over about 36 months (earlier reports said 6 months locked + 2 years release)
- **Prediction Pool 30%**: tied to about 30 public events—when an event happens, the corresponding tokens are destroyed (e.g., the 2028 Democratic Party win, BTC setting a new all-time high, LAPTOP market cap surpassing TRUMP). If an event doesn’t happen, the tokens move into charity.
- **Airdrop 10% + Future Airdrop 10%**: in the initial airdrop, 2% goes to wallets that lost money on TRUMP (distributed according to each participant’s rules via partner exchanges), and 8% goes to Hunter’s Substack subscribers.
- **Liquidity 10% / Foundation treasury 5% / Charity 5%**
- Unlock 35% on the TGE day (350 million tokens); the remaining 65% will be released gradually over 36 months
Translate the key points: with today’s listing, 350 million tokens enter circulation immediately—there isn’t small sell pressure. But the biggest narrative highlight is the 30% "prediction burn pool": your LAPTOP holdings could decrease because of political events like "Democrats win 2028" (a potential positive), or they could be redirected to charity.
**TRUMP is being suppressed today after being "called out"**
The biggest victim of the LAPTOP launch is the TRUMP coin: it’s down to around $2.22 today, about a 1.6% drop over 24 hours and a 2.8% drop over the past week. Even Hunter himself didn’t hold back in a post: "Nearly 1 million wallets lost about $3.8 billion on TRUMP—my airdrop is to compensate the people who were burned by this scam." Back then, the political weapon that attacked Biden’s family with the "laptop scandal" was used to hit them—now Hunter has turned it into his own marketing ammo to attack his rival’s token. The drama here is even more intense than the meme coin itself.
**Yesterday’s warning came true today: fake coins run before real ones**
In yesterday’s article, I specifically reminded everyone that "before the official contract is published, almost all LAPTOPs on the market are fake coins"—and the reality is even more extreme than expected. Within an hour after the WSJ report was released, at least 14 counterfeit LAPTOP tokens flooded onto Robinhood Chain, Solana, TON, and BNB Chain, totaling $6.9 million in trades. The biggest fake coin was listed on Robinhood Chain, with a single pool totaling $5.43 million.
What’s even worse: there was already a same-name LAPTOP token deployed on the Base chain on June 27 (unrelated to Hunter). So even after today, **the only way to avoid fakes is to confirm the official contract address**. Buying coins based on the name alone is a trap—9 out of 10 are pits.
**How should you view this launch?**
First, political figures issuing tokens has shifted from a "novelty" to a "serial drama"—TRUMP issues TRUMP, Biden’s family issues LAPTOP. Before the next election, there will be more of these "political meme coins." Second, LAPTOP bundles "event prediction + token destruction + charity" together, which is more imaginative than a pure meme coin—at least in form. But in essence, nothing has changed: people are trading topics and emotions, not value. Third, unlocking 35% on the TGE day means real short-term sell pressure; be cautious about chasing the price—meme coin first-day candlesticks are often the most dangerous.
One last thing, plainly: Hunter turned the "laptop scandal" that nearly destroyed his father into his own "resilience narrative". In his post, he said he’s been sober for seven years, and now the laptop symbol represents "resilience and rebirth." This narrative framing ability is indeed stronger than when Trump issued tokens. But no matter how well the story is packaged, it doesn’t change the core reality of meme coins—there’s an extremely high risk of going to zero. Watch the show if you want, but don’t buy tickets with living expenses.
Will you go claim the LAPTOP airdrop, or do you think this is just political theater? Let’s discuss it in the comments.
