Some time ago, NFT on the BTC chain was very popular. As the first blockchain work, BTC domain names were also speculated.
Although there is no special application yet, considering the ENS airdrop and SPACEID airdrop, many people want to register a BTC domain name to commemorate it. There may not be any surprises, but there is one that is a bit more stable.
Some time ago, Chuxiaolian saw a tutorial compiled by a blogger. The operation was too complicated and I couldn't figure it out. In the past two days, I found another tutorial that was easier to operate. I compiled it and you can follow it up if you need it.
Minting the BTC domain name, that is, the .sats domain name, involves keywords such as the Lightning Network, Ordinals protocol, and inscriptions. This article will not introduce it in depth, but will outline how to register a .sats domain name.
1. Create a HiroWallet wallet.
Similar to Metamask, HiroWallet is a digital wallet based on Bitcoin and L2 (such as Stacks); Ordinals is also connected to the Hiro wallet, and Ordinals is an NFT trading platform on the Bitcoin chain.
You can install it directly through Google App Store chrome and create a wallet.
2. Mint the .sats domain name through the ordswap platform.
Cast the domain name on the Ordswap platform (inscribe.ordswap.io), select the text method, and if the casting quantity is multiple, check the batch inscription.
The text input format is {"p":"sns","op":"reg","name":"btc.sats"}, replace btc with the domain name you need to cast.
3. Check whether the domain name has been registered.
Before registering, you must first check whether the domain name you want to register has been registered. If it has already been registered, the registration will not be successful even if you pay the casting fee, and the fee will not be refunded.
You can replace name with the domain name you want to register in api.sats.id/names/name.sats, and it will prompt not found.
It indicates that it can be registered. If the inscription and block information appear, it has been registered.
4. Fill in the address to receive .sats and make the payment for casting.
Fill in the Ordinal inscription address of HiroWallet in the receiving address, which usually starts with bc.
After confirming the receiving address, select payment.
The current fee to register a BTC domain name is 0.000287 BTC, which is about US$8.
After confirming the receiving address, click Confirm Payment and the QR code and payment address will appear.
You can withdraw BTC to pay through the exchange, or pay through a BTC wallet.
When withdrawing money from the exchange, pay attention to the platform's minimum withdrawal amount. For example, BN is 0.001 BTC, and minting one BTC and paying gas does not exceed 0.001. You can mint more, or make small payments from your wallet.
5. After payment, check the domain name in the wallet after a while.
You need to wait for a certain period of time after the payment is completed. When registering with Chuxiao Chain, you can view it in your wallet after about 50 minutes.
No one knows what the use of registering the .sats domain name now is, or whether it is just for commemoration, or whether a project in the future will take a snapshot of all .sats domain name holders and issue airdrops. It is unknown.
There is currently a bit of popularity in the BTC ecological NFT, especially when Yuga Labs launched Twelvefold on the Ordinals market some time ago, with the highest auction price exceeding 7 BTC.
There was also a lot of excitement on the BTC chain a while ago. The Boring Ape on the Ethereum chain was re-cast on the BTC chain. Although it was only a short-term popularity, it was free to mint at the time, and now the floor price is 0.51 ETH.
Two days ago, I also saw that the Bitcoin Pizza NFT was also minted for free. It is a set of pixel pizzas to commemorate the story of 10,000 BTC being exchanged for 2 pizza flatbreads.
These hot spots are all phased. After registering the .sats domain name, there may not be any surprises.
In addition to the .sats domain name, there is also the .btc domain name of the BTC second-layer STACK. Registration requires 2 STX and can be used for 5 years.
Use HiroWallet to log in at btc.us, search for unregistered domain names and just make a claim.
Transfer STX to the wallet through the BN Lightning Network. Each wallet address can only register one .btc domain name.
Of course, these are just experiences on the chain, leaving traces on the chain is likely to be wasted money.
