Hardware wallet maker Trezor has come out to deliver the bad news itself 😬
Its logistics partner ShipMonk suffered a data breach, and the number of people affected is much larger than previously reported
Another 67,000 U.S. customers were exposed, including everyone who placed orders from 2019 to 2021
Names, emails, phone numbers, shipping addresses, and order details were all stolen
The most infuriating part is that the logistics company promised to delete the data, but didn’t delete it at all
Trezor’s own systems weren’t compromised, so the blame is entirely on its weak link
And this isn’t the first time either
At the beginning of 2024, its customer support data leaked as well, affecting more than 60,000 people
This time, they said in early August that only 14,000 were affected, but in less than a month the number has surged nearly fivefold
Why is this worth worrying about? Because once scammers get your shipping address, they can target you with precision
They can impersonate Trezor through emails or text messages and trick you into handing over your seed phrase, wiping your wallet out completely
In just one quarter, scams like this cost the entire industry more than $300 million
In July, someone even unknowingly signed a phishing approval and lost nearly $1 million in an instant
Let me repeat the old rule: no legitimate official will ever ask you for your seed phrase
Anyone who asks is a scammer—no matter how convincing the email looks, never click the link
