In $XLE 24 hours, it rose 1.325%, closing at 63.48; the funding rate is 0, with an open position of 8,289.08. Politically, there are no new variables pushing energy contracts higher. Prices moved slightly upward, but nobody on the contract side is willing to pay to express a directional view. The funding rate being zero means neither longs nor shorts are pricing political risk; this rally has no leverage support. Chasing longs is equivalent to taking a bag. I choose not to touch it. I’ll wait until the price closes above 63.48 and the funding rate turns positive, then I’ll test a long position in a small size, keeping the position size under 1% of the account. If the funding rate turns negative or the price falls back below 63.48, I’ll abandon the idea.
