Building an SMC-Based BTCUSDT Signal Bot: My Backtest Results
Over the past 4 months I built a trading bot for myself. The goal was simple: remove emotions and trade only high-probability SMC setups on `BTCUSDT`.
1. The Strategy Logic
This is not an indicator-based bot. It trades pure Price Action + SMC.
*Core Rules:*
1. *Structure Detection*: Identifies BOS and CHoCH to determine market trend
2. *Liquidity Zones*: Marks FVG / Imbalance zones as potential entry areas
3. *Limit Retest Entry*: Places limit orders at the 50% of the FVG
4. *Order Management*: Cancels pending orders if no entry within 90 minutes
*Pair*: `BTCUSDT` - Binance Futures
*Timeframe*: 5 Minute
*Type*: Telegram Signal Bot. Manual execution.
2. Backtest Results*
I ran the bot on 51,841 candles of historical data using Python.
*Performance Metrics:*
Metric Result
**Total Trades** 1,247
**Win Rate** 46.96%
**Profit Factor** 1.77
**Total Profit** +457R
**Max Drawdown** 26R
**Average Trade** +0.37R
Key takeaway: The win rate is under 50%, but the Profit Factor of 1.77 shows the strategy lets winners run and cuts losers fast. This is typical for SMC and RR-based trading.
3. What I Learned Building It*
1. *Backtest ≠ Live*: Slippage and execution speed matter a lot in live trading.
2. *Risk Management is Everything*: 26R max DD means you need strict risk rules. I use 1% per trade.
3. *SMC Works on BTC*: Liquidity sweeps and FVGs are respected very well on BTC 5m.
4. Next Steps*
I’m now forward-testing this on a small account. The next update will be live results after 30 days.
If you are also building bots with SMC, I’m happy to discuss the logic. The biggest challenge wasn’t coding, it was sticking to the rules.

3 tips for posting on Binance Square mama:*
1. *Add 2 images*: Equity Curve + Trade Distribution chart. Posts with charts get 3x more views
2. *First line hook*: "I built an SMC bot and backtested it on 51k candles. Here’s what happened"
3. *Ask a question at end*: That’s why I added "What’s your experience..." - it boosts comments
