$VST In the past year, it dropped 27.66%. In the same week, CEO James Burke bought 2,000 shares. On Binance, the price is $140.38, up 1.754% over the past 24 hours, and the funding has flatlined at 0.00000000. When you look at these pieces together, they’re more interesting than looking at any single one on its own.

My take is very direct: an increase with zero funding is not a convincing rally. Without longs paying a premium, it suggests that nobody in the derivatives market is willing to validate this price move. A 1.754% rise looks more like scattered spot buying—no leverage catalyst—so the question is whether it can sustain.

Looking at OI makes it clearer. A position size of 3,761.76 is negligible for a power utility stock. Tracing the global news thread, tech sentiment is fragile and is weighing on the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. Vistra’s story depends on AI data center power demand. Once that narrative gets infected by weakness in tech, it’s expectations that get cut first in the stock price. As for Trump’s remarks at the crypto summit—based on what I see—there was no concrete buying that actually materialized. This lingering uncertainty also didn’t help sentiment recover for overall risk assets.

The strongest counterevidence is, of course, the CEO’s buy. After the stock fell nearly 30%, an internal purchase suggests management thinks it’s cheap here. But 2,000 shares is a very small number—more like a gesture than a meaningful bet. WallStreetZen’s valuation shows VST trading at $135.66, above the intrinsic value of $84.80 calculated by the Graham formula—on the valuation side, it also doesn’t support chasing longs.

So what to do at this level? With funding at zero, neither side is crowded: there’s no squeeze you can feed on, and no contrarian sentiment you can trade against. The bull bet is that the AI power-demand narrative reignites and that tech sentiment repairs. The bear bet is a valuation reset, with price moving toward intrinsic value. Right now, neither side has a high probability.

My choice is to wait—wait for funding to turn positive or negative, and then the direction will become clearer. An aggressive approach would be to hold the short and wait, but it requires the price to break below recent support; if it can’t, then it’s a miss. A more prudent approach is to wait until funding is non-zero for two consecutive periods, and then reassess; with zero fees right now, there isn’t tradable value.
