A-share centenary brand ZHANGXIAQUAN’s knife and scissor business staged a “high opening then diving” drama: during the call auction period, the stock surged sharply at the open, rising 11.68% to 32.99 yuan, only to immediately plunge straight down. By midday it closed at 30.88 yuan, with the gain narrowing to 4.54%. The intraday trading range exceeded 10%, and the market value was about 4.817 billion yuan.

What sparked this unusual move wasn’t orders, nor a restructuring announcement, but a “nail clipper” poster that went viral on stock forums and short-video platforms. The poster bears ZHANGXIAQUAN’s brand logo and the caption “Trim your nails—wherever you want to touch, touch there.” It appears to have borrowed details and made a joke based on trending “nail clipper” references tied to recent news involving Sun Yuzhen and Jing Tian. Taking the cue, netizens effectively dubbed ZHANGXIAQUAN an “A-share nail clipper concept stock.”

A customer service representative from ZHANGXIAQUAN’s official flagship store responded: “The online poster about ZHANGXIAQUAN nail clippers is a netizen’s secondary creation and not an advertisement content released by ZHANGXIAQUAN. The brand has no position on this incident and will not comment further.”

Fundamentals, however, aren’t bad. The company’s 2026 half-year report shows that in the first half, revenue was 557 million yuan, up 17.99% year on year, while attributable net profit was 34.6896 million yuan, up 26.14%. But this “old information” clearly isn’t the trigger for the pre-market spike. The real ignition came from sentiment spreading on social platforms—speculators and retail investors chased the move and briefly pushed this long-established brand into “concept stock” territory.

The rapid dive after the opening surge already signals the issue: when a stock is driven by jokes rather than orders and performance, the risk of chasing highs is magnified many times. In A-share history, similar “homophone jokes” and “meme-driven concept” market rallies are not uncommon. In April, ZHANGXIAQUAN also saw a five-day streak of gains after rumors that industrial scissors would enter optical modules and PCB segments—after which the company personally refuted the claims. This nail-clipper meme, in essence, is no different.
