#TRUMP negotiates control of key oil fields in #Venezuela to double U.S. reserves.
The Trump administration maintains advanced negotiations with Venezuela’s interim government (led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Interim President Delcy Rodríguez) to acquire a direct stake in more than a dozen productive oil fields (totaling 90,000,000 barrels of proven reserves).
The deal seeks to counter the historic low of the U.S. Strategic Reserve and the price instability stemming from conflicts in Iran and Ukraine.
In exchange for ceding that stake (covering assets previously linked to Chinese interests), Venezuela would benefit from the capital and infrastructure of U.S. private companies to restart an industry devastated by decades of mismanagement.
The plan, conceived even before Nicolás Maduro’s capture on January 3, outlines Washington’s geopolitical strategy in the Western Hemisphere, while Energy Secretary Chris Wright prepares a trip to #Caracas to finalize the increase in production.
