Coldcard, one of the most important hardware wallets for Bitcoin, has suffered a large-scale hacking attack 👀‼️
Today, it was confirmed as one of the most brutal fund-draining events in self-custody history.
In just 25–40 minutes, an attacker emptied 500 to 1,200 Bitcoin wallets. They took more than 1,000 BTC (some sources claim 594 coins, others claim 1,082).
Many of these wallets had been dormant for years, with funds deposited between 2021 and 2026.
What’s the craziest part?
No one touched these devices. No phishing attacks, no malware, no physical access. Coldcard is an air-gapped device…… yet they were still drained.
The reason: a firmware failure from March 2021.
