**$SOL reduce latency: Solana lowers the target time of its slots to 350 ms**
Solana activated on mainnet the first phase of its update to reduce the target time of each slot: it went from **400 to 350 milliseconds**.
A slot is the interval during which a validator can produce a block. By shortening it, the network aims to offer faster confirmations. However, this change **does not directly increase the total processing capacity**.
The roadmap includes gradual reductions until reaching 200 ms. Each phase will depend on the performance observed: if too many blocks are skipped, the next reduction may be delayed.
**Why does it matter?** Lower latency can improve the experience for payments, trading, and real-time applications. The decisive factor will be whether Solana maintains stability and decentralization while speeding up block production.
