WAL (Walrus) is a type of project that you understand after you build something.

If you've never built an application, decentralized storage may seem like a side feature. But builders know the truth that storage determines whether the application feels real or fragile. You can have the best smart contracts in the world, but if your files disappear, your application is fundamentally broken. That's why WAL is important.

WAL is the native token of the Walrus protocol, a system designed for secure and private blockchain interactions, while also providing decentralized storage that preserves the privacy of large files. It operates in a Swarm system and uses block storage to efficiently handle heavy data like NFT media, application content, datasets, and user logs. It then uses sharding encryption to split those files into pieces and distribute them across the network so that the data remains retrievable even if some nodes go down.

WAL is associated with governance and storage that keeps the network decentralized and encourages storage providers to remain reliable. It's not a "loud" project, but a practical one.
