On August 13, the U.S. 30-year Treasury was auctioned at 5.216%. Kobeissi transferred this Bloomberg chart on August 16, plotting the U.S. Treasury’s 30-year auction rates from 2002 to 2026; the most recent one has already climbed above 5%. The tender results slip shows $25 billion in competitive bids, and the “High Yield” column is 5.216%, while the coupon rate is 5.125%.

In the same week, the 10-year public auction drew $42 billion in bids. The awarded yield was 4.683%, and this auction has not been seen since 2007. The July 9 30-year auction was 5.058%. Long-dated Treasuries were halted for a few years in 2001 and only resumed in 2005, so “the highest since 2001” refers to this auction sequence.
