SPYB - «ПРИБУТКИ S&P 500 +52%». ТОБТО ВСІ 500 КОМПАНІЙ ЛЕТЯТЬ У КОСМОС?
Today, Reuters cited an estimate from LSEG: the total earnings of S&P 500 companies for the second quarter rose by roughly 52%.

A space number.

But the next sentence matters more than the figure itself: the lion’s share of this growth was driven by Amazon, Microsoft, and other AI heavyweights.

That is:

aggregate earnings +52%

is not the same as:

the typical S&P 500 company earned +52%

It’s like saying the average wealth of people in a room jumped sharply because a billionaire walked in.

That’s why, for $SPYB , after any loud index-number, I’d look for concentration.

Who actually made this result?

Do dozens of companies contribute evenly? Or are there just a few giants with massive weights in the index?

Today, even the S&P 500 itself closed at −0.17%, despite such a juicy aggregate earnings picture.

A big index smooths out the details. And the story most often hides in the details.
