Conclusion first: today these two markets are doing completely opposite things—crypto is killing longs, and US stocks are killing shorts—but over the last hour they moved in sync.
Crypto 24h liquidations totaled $130 million: longs were $81.49 million, or 62.6%, across 73,320 trades. TradFi 24h liquidations totaled $52.31 million: shorts were $31.51 million, or 60.2%, across 9,968 trades. The direction is completely reversed.
Take it apart and you’ll see it more clearly. On the crypto side, BTC alone exploded $37.26 million in liquidations: longs were $30.53 million, or 81.9%, and anyone who tried to catch the falling knife got cleared out completely. ETH saw $19.39 million explode as well, and longs accounted for 57%. The real opposite is AKE: $14.22 million, with shorts making up 89.9%, 9,640 trades—each trade averaged only $1,475. A bunch of small-position traders were shorting at high levels and got squeezed out.
In TradFi, stocks blew up by 43.66 million; shorts are 63.8%, mainly because the semiconductor names are getting squeezed. Commodities blew up by 7.6 million; instead, longs are 61.8%, and people going long gold and crude oil are losing money.
The timeline is what matters. In the 12-hour window, crypto longs account for 70.1%; it drops to 51.0% at the 4-hour mark, and in the most recent hour it flips—shorts are now 68.8%. In TradFi, shorts are 64.2% in the last hour. The past day had both sides going at it, but in the newest hour, both markets are simultaneously squeezing shorts.
The Fear & Greed Index is 29 and still in the fear zone. The altcoin season index is 66, and BTC has dropped 19.2% over the past 90 days. Sentiment hasn’t repaired, yet shorts got dealt with first. This combination usually suggests the back-and-forth choppy movement in the bottom area hasn’t finished yet.

Do you think this move is the beginning of the shorts collectively laying down arms, or just another fake rebound?
