Bitcoin just failed the “let’s rebuild Bitcoin” speedrun. 💀
BIP-110, a proposal aiming to change consensus rules to limit spam on Bitcoin, has failed and split into a separate chain with extremely low hash power.
According to Giacomo Zucco, this is a pretty big lesson: today’s Bitcoin is almost impossible to recreate from scratch because achieving the same level of decentralization, hash power, and consensus as in Bitcoin’s early days is much harder.
Even BIP-110 stalled after just 2 blocks, then only reached 4 blocks at the time of the interview.
I see the irony here:
Bitcoin was created at a time that’s almost impossible to replicate.
Bitcoin: “Just decentralize it.”
Everyone trying to recreate Bitcoin: “Bro, it’s not that easy.” 💀
