Today the entire crypto market did just one thing: wait.

All day long, you’re staring at a number that hasn’t even been released yet. That restless feeling is exactly like waiting for the other person to reply. You know that催(催促) doesn’t help, but you still can’t resist checking the chart every three minutes.

BTC slid all the way to around 63,200. ETH broke below 1,900 and dropped to around 1,860. XRP held stubbornly around one dollar. Overall, it’s not exactly a collapse—it’s more like tightening up, afraid to move. It’s like getting to know someone before confessing; before you’ve figured things out, nobody dares to be the first to say it. (Prices are based on data from August 12.)

Tonight at 8:30 Beijing time, the July CPI will be officially released. The market consensus year-over-year is 3.4%, down slightly from last month’s 3.5%. The core expectation is 2.5%. These decimal points will directly determine whether crypto prices keep rebounding or turn downward. If the numbers look good, the mood will clear on the spot. If they’re worse, you’ll break down right there.

But compared to tonight’s check-up, I’d rather remind you about Friday: on August 14, the SEC will vote on the crypto asset classification framework. This is the first official crypto legislation during the Chair’s tenure—a certainty. It’s far more reliable than chasing an unknown number.

There’s another contrast worth watching: a mega-whale has quietly accumulated more than 20,000 BTC recently—worth hundreds of millions of dollars—while retail investors keep shrinking back. They’re quietly stocking up while watching from the sidelines. Usually, the big money knows things that small players don’t.

Tomorrow’s outlook: before CPI is released, don’t chase longs or chase shorts. First, get a clear view of the people before you let your heart move. For BTC, only when it reclaims 64,250 can you turn bullish; if it breaks below 63,500, hide for a bit. The real opportunity is in Friday’s vote—not in tonight’s single number.

Peace—data only reveals the answer, it isn’t the person who decides your emotions. Hedge your position and mindset in advance, and you’ll always have options.
