$AAOI reports 128.97, down 10.288% over the last 24 hours. Open interest is 77,526.90, and the funding rate is zero. The selloff has already been large enough, but for now neither the long nor the short side is continuously paying. The order book hasn’t developed an obvious one-sided crowding.

I’m more concerned about the mismatch between the sharp price drop and a neutral funding rate. The decline may be mainly driven by aggressive sell orders and longs reducing positions, but the shorts’ follow-through force may not be increasing at the same time. Open interest is only at the current level, with no information about changes before and after, so it’s not enough to conclude that new short positions are piling up. Chasing shorts right now could run into the rebound/covers after a sudden plunge, while jumping into longs without support from the funding/position structure would also be risky.

My bias is still slightly bearish, so I won’t chase a short directly around 128.97. If the rebound lacks strength and the price breaks below 128.97 again, I’ll open a small short position, with the stop-loss placed above the rebound high. If the price regains and holds above that level and the funding rate is still close to zero, I’ll cancel the short plan and wait for a new direction to be chosen.
