Pre-market Stock Trading Opportunities in US Markets: Oil Rises, Gold Falls; Storage Diverges—Tomorrow Night’s CPI Is the Main Event
This evening, Dow Jones futures are slightly down 0.11%, Nasdaq futures are slightly up 0.1%, and the S&P is flat. Behind it all is one core thing: the negotiations on the Strait of Hormuz have fallen through, and oil prices have surged again.
WTI crude jumped straight to around $84.5, up nearly 3%. When oil prices spike, inflation expectations rise too, and the Fed’s rate-hike probability will likely move higher again.
Rocket Lab (RKLB) crashed 9% pre-market. Although Q2 revenue beat expectations, the loss also came in worse than expected. The key issue is that the first flight of the Neutron rocket may be pushed from end of 2026 to 2027—what the market fears most is this kind of “storytelling” timeline slipping.
Gold and silver are falling pre-market. London spot gold is down $4,364, down 0.61%, which suggests a shift in short-term risk appetite: with oil up and rate-hike expectations heating up, gold doesn’t feel good. The logic is straightforward.
The biggest variable tonight isn’t a specific stock—it’s Wednesday’s CPI. The market expects year-over-year 3.4%. The market’s current fluctuations are just appetizers; don’t load up too heavily on your positioning before direction becomes clear.
Rocket Lab (RKLB): it’s already down 9% pre-market, so chasing a short isn’t great value. Around the mid-$74 area, there’s a dense supply/demand zone. If opening momentum sells it down into that area, it could trigger an oversold rebound. Going long should be quick in and out only. Set a stop-loss at $72 and look for $79–80. But for “story-driven” stocks, once the timeline gets fuzzy, valuation re-pricing can be quite harsh—don’t go heavy on position size.

As for storage (MU, SNDK, SKHY), they’re all up pre-market. However, SK Hynix’s Korean-listed shares had already opened down—this divergence should be watched carefully. If tonight’s CPI data drags the index down, this storage rebound is likely to be pulled lower too. If you want to go long, wait until it holds above the 5-day moving average; don’t rush to chase.
Micron’s resistance is around 870. If it can’t break through, that’s a good spot to short.

Gold (GLD): down slightly pre-market. If CPI comes in above expectations, gold prices will likely face further downward pressure. If it breaks below 4350, watch 4320. On the other hand, if CPI is moderate and rate-hike expectations cool off, gold is actually the most worth positioning for long. If it holds above 4380, you can chase; stop-loss at 4350; target around 4450.
