What's causing the losses in contracts? It's not that you can't read the charts, it's that you're overanalyzing.
I have a follower who's been trading contracts for two years and has lost over a hundred grand in U. He came to me for a review, and when I opened his trading app, the screen was cluttered with lines—MACD, KDJ, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci—more crowded than an engineering drawing. He asked me: "Jie Ge, I know more indicators than anyone, so why am I still losing?"
I looked at his records and found one issue: it's not that he didn't understand, he's just looking at too much. As soon as a coin starts showing some action, MACD signals a golden cross, KDJ says it's overbought, and Bollinger Bands indicate it's still in the middle band. With all these conflicting signals, he starts to hesitate; after hesitating, the market moves on. By the time he finally decides to enter, he's chasing the highs, gets stopped out, and when he looks back, the indicators are right again. After a few rounds of this, his money's gone and he's exhausted.
Indicators are tools, not magic wands. If you have ten tools in your hand and they all beep, whose signal do you listen to? In the end, you can only rely on your gut. Trading based on gut feelings is no different from flipping a coin.
Later, I had him delete all the indicators on his screen, leaving just a 20-day moving average and one MACD. The rules became painfully simple: when the daily MACD shows a golden cross and the price is above the 20-day line, enter; if it breaks below, get out. Ignore all other signals. A month later, his account started to turn green. He said, "It turns out it wasn't that my skills were lacking; I was just overthinking it before.
Trading isn’t about being scholarly; the simpler it is, the easier it is to execute. You think your losses are due to lack of understanding, but in fact, it's the opposite—it's because you understand too much, enough to confuse yourself.
Delete the excess indicators and keep one or two that you truly understand. When the signal lights up, enter; if you're wrong, cut your losses; if you're right, hold on. You'll find that making money isn't that complicated.
