# Bitcoin drops 2%, altcoins down 5%, now's the real time to scoop up some chips
Today, when the market dipped, altcoins took a bigger hit than Bitcoin. XRP dropped by 5.25%, SOL fell by 4.33%, and BNB is down by 2.89%. The old habit of altcoins following the downtrend but not the uptrend has not disappointed anyone.
But honestly, this is how it should be. In a bull market, altcoins pump hard, and in a bear market, they crash just as hard. Back in 2021, SOL shot up from $3 to $260, over 80x. Now, no matter how low it drops, early holders are still in profit, and selling off comes with no psychological burden.
A buddy of mine asked me last month: "What can I still buy now?"
I told him to not even think about what to buy yet, but to figure out one thing first—are you entering the market to play short-term for a rebound, or are you ready to hold for over a year?
If it's for a short-term play, to be honest, your win rate in this market won't exceed 40%. Going long in a bearish trend is like swimming against the current. You might splash around a bit, but chances are you'll get swept away.
But if you're willing to hold for over a year, it gets easier. Look for those projects that have dropped over 70% from their highs, still have TVL, the team is actively updating code, and their Twitter is as quiet as a graveyard.
Remember that crash on March 12, 2020? BTC dropped 50% in a single day, and the whole network exploded with liquidations. In that panic, I bought some AVAX for less than $20. Later it peaked at $146.
But you know what’s the most ironic part? I sold it at $44.
Because I thought, "It’s risen too much, it’s bound to correct."
That feeling of missing out is a thousand times worse than cutting losses—knowing you were right but didn’t hold on. Every time I think about it now, I want to slap myself.
So this time I learned my lesson. No guessing the bottom, dollar cost average in, and once I’m in, I don’t look back. In crypto, holding is worth a hundred times more than trying to find the bottom.
I won’t push specific targets, as no one listens anyway. But I’ve noticed a few Layer 1 and DeFi projects with on-chain data slowly turning around. When Bitcoin stabilizes around $60k, these might be the next big plays.
Do you have any altcoins in your hands? Are you already lying flat or still looking for opportunities to catch the bottom?
