Bitwise Releases Bitcoin Digital Wallet Addresses for Spot ETFs
Cryptocurrency-focused fund manager Bitwise said on Wednesday it became the first U.S. bitcoin ETF to disclose the digital wallet addresses of its holdings.
Bitwise noted that the decision to publish this information stems from its emphasis on on-chain transparency. “Now anyone can verify BITB’s holdings and flows directly on the blockchain,” the company wrote in a social media post on Wednesday.
“Publishing on-chain addresses is the first step in providing public transparency,” the company said. “As the infrastructure develops, we hope to do more, such as working with companies like Hoseki to provide real-time cryptographic authentication.”
Vitalik Buterin: Favors using EIP to increase calldata cost
Toni Wahrstatter, a data researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, wrote an article analyzing "Should Ethereum's block gas limit be increased?" In response, Vitalik Buterin pointed out on the X platform: "I tend to use EIP to increase the calldata cost, perhaps back to the original 68 per non-zero byte. Now we have EIP-4844 blobs for data-intensive use cases, which will solve the data problems that arise in the worst case and add more space for increasing the gas limit and blob count targets."

Gary Gensler: Approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF should not be over-interpreted
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler said on Wednesday that while some expect a spot ethereum ETF could be next in line for approval, the agency’s move earlier this month to approve several spot bitcoin ETFs was limited to just that one cryptocurrency.
“As I said two weeks ago, what we are doing with the bitcoin ETF is limited to this non-security commodity and should not be interpreted as anything beyond that,” Gensler said at a media briefing when asked about his views on the Ethereum ETF.
The agency approved 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs on Jan. 10 after three judges in a Washington, D.C. court asked the SEC to review its decision on Grayscale’s spot Bitcoin ETF application.
Gensler said there is now better disclosure for investors in bitcoin funds. "In the background, there is also better disclosure. They are now listed on stock exchanges instead of trading over the counter. There are 10 or 11 listed at the same time, which brings a certain level of competition. You have seen some competition, and investors have benefited from it because fees have been reduced," Gensler said.

SEC Delays Decision on BlackRock’s Proposed Spot Ethereum ETF to March
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has delayed the timeline for a decision on BlackRock’s proposed spot Ethereum exchange-traded fund until March, according to a filing.
According to Wednesday’s filing, “the Commission believes that a longer period of time for action is appropriate with respect to the proposed rule change to allow sufficient time for consideration of the proposed rule change and the issues raised therein.” The SEC now faces a March 10 deadline to approve, disapprove or take additional proceedings with respect to the proposed fund.
BlackRock filed its physical Ethereum ETF, called the iShares Ethereum Trust, in November, and Fidelity’s Ethereum ETF filing has also been delayed, according to a filing released last week.
James Seyffart, ETF analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, said that the delays in the spot Ethereum ETF proposal are likely to continue. Seyffart said in a post on the X platform on Wednesday: "Delays in the spot Ethereum ETF will occur intermittently over the next few months. The next important date is May 23rd."
CZ once proposed to use $4.5 billion of Binance shares as collateral for returning to the United States, but was still rejected by the judge
According to CNBC, last month a federal judge rejected Binance founder CZ's application for travel permit, who wanted to go to his home in the United Arab Emirates to deal with his relatives' "hospitalization and surgery."
A new court document shows that although CZ proposed to use his Binance shares as collateral for his return to the United States, the judge rejected his request. The document also shows that CZ's lawyers pointed out in a letter to Judge Richard Jones on December 22, 2023 that based on Binance's last round of financing two years ago, the equity to be used as collateral is worth up to $4.5 billion.
Court records show that Jones held a closed-door hearing on the request on December 29 and denied Zhao Changpeng's travel request.
