It's 2021, which means you can make money raising virtual pets. A simple way to understand Axie Infinity is to imagine a blockchain game that combines Pokémon and CryptoKitties and elements of card games.

Specifically, Axie Infinity is a game and NFT ecosystem built on the Ethereum blockchain. Its native cryptocurrencies are the ERC-20 tokens Axie Infinity Shard (AXS) and Smooth Love Potion (SLP). AXS is a governance token, and SLP is used for breeding new Axies. AXS is also available as BEP-20 tokens on Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

Each Axie creature has a different class and is made up of various body parts, stats, and other attributes. To play, you will need a team of Axies which can be purchased or provided by another player. You can store your tokens and NFTs in an Ethereum or Ronin wallet. The Ronin sidechain allows for near-instant transactions and allows players to trade tokens and Axies without using the Ethereum blockchain, reducing transaction costs.

In the future, you will also be able to purchase NFT land. AXS and SLP are available for purchase on Binance and transferable to your Ronin wallet. You can also use the Ronin Gateway to send tokens from an Ethereum wallet to a Ronin wallet.

Introduction

Taking inspiration from the concept launched by CryptoKitties, Axie Infinity is an Ethereum-based collectible game that has been in development since 2018. The game was born from Sky Mavis, a start-up based in Vietnam, it debuted as a project passion and evolved into a popular Ethereum game.

Axie Infinity Shard (AXS) is the token of the Axie Infinity ecosystem. AXS is an ERC-20 governance token, launched in November 2020. AXS tokens can be purchased, traded, or earned by playing the game. AXS rewards are awarded to top players after each season.

There are other tokens associated with Axie Infinity, including game assets (like your Axie characters) in the form of ERC-721 tokens or the ERC-20 Small Love Potion (SLP) token. SLP became famous as part of the "play-to-earn" movement, allowing players to earn a fairly regular income simply by playing Axie Infinity.

What is Axie Infinity?

In the Axie Infinity ecosystem, in-game characters are called Axies. These are non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that you own and control. You can store them in your personal wallet, transfer them to other Ethereum addresses, or trade with other players using a blockchain-based marketplace. In addition to Axies, the game offers virtual terrain and items, which are also ERC-721 tokens.

Within the ecosystem, players can use teams and formations in Adventure mode (PvE - Player vs. Environment) to fight the monsters of Lunacia, the kingdom of Axie Infinity. They can also choose Arena mode (PvP - Player vs. Player / Player vs. environment) to face other Axie trainers (human players). When you win, you get an asset called Small Love Potion (SLP), which is used for breeding Axies. SLP is also an ERC-20 token and can be traded on exchanges like Binance.

There may be an entry barrier for new players due to Axie's relatively high prices and sometimes high Ethereum gas prices. The Ethereum Ronin sidechain helps alleviate this problem.

What is the Axie Infinity Shard (AXS)?

The AXS coin (Axie Infinity Shard) is not only a governance token, but it also allows holders to stake and receive AXS rewards. These rewards come from the Community Treasury, which is fueled by in-game purchases. The total supply of AXS will be 270,000,000 tokens. Some tokens were allocated for a public sale, others to be won in-game and still others for Sky Mavis and the project's advisors. The initial offering during the first public sale was just under 60,000,000 tokens. The number of tokens issued is expected to increase each year until 2026.

As of August 2021, Axie Infinity reached one million daily active players. Two months later, the number was closer to two million. If the game manages to amass an even larger player base, it will definitely add more value to the ecosystem. As we mentioned previously, the Ronin sidechain, as well as a free version, are planned to encourage even greater growth. A future free version should have the same effect.

By playing Axie Infinity, players can earn both AXS and SLP tokens. These tokens can then be exchanged for other cryptocurrencies. There are already players making money playing Axie Infinity.

How to store AXS?

As AXS is an ERC-20 token, it can be stored in any ERC-20 compatible software wallet such as Trust Wallet, Binance Chain Wallet, Exodus, as well as hardware wallets such as Trezor One or Ledger Nano X. You can also store AXS in your Ronin Wallet, a wallet designed specifically for Axie Infinity.

What is Ronin Wallet?

Ronin wallet is a crypto wallet that runs on the Ethereum Ronin sidechain. This is a browser extension that allows you to interact with the Axie Infinity decentralized application (DApp). Since Ethereum can generate high traffic and fees, the Ronin chain allows players to play Axie Infinity with much lower fees. The Ronin wallet is also compatible with other NFT games on the Ronin blockchain.

What is the Ronin Gateway?

The Ronin gateway allows you to transfer tokens from the Ethereum blockchain to the Ronin sidechain. ETH sent to the blockchain is wrapped and can be used to purchase Axie creatures, SLP and other items. You can also transfer tokens from the Ronin blockchain to Ethereum to sell them on exchanges like Binance.

What is Smooth Love Potion (SLP)?

Smooth Love Potion (SLP) is an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network. SLP tokens are the main source of income for players. They can be sold or used for breeding new Axies. The token is available in unlimited quantities and can be obtained by completing daily quests and competing against other players. SLP tokens are burned once used for farming, and there are a limited number that can be farmed per day.

SLP Use Cases

Three main uses of SLP generate its demand:

1. It gives users the ability to create new Axies from two pre-existing Axies. A certain amount of Smooth Love Potions is required, which depends on the number of reproductions of the two parent axies.

2. Users can receive the token as a reward for reaching new levels with their Axies, completing quests and winning battles.

3. SLP holders can speculate on the price and trade it on cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance.

These use cases are exactly what helped us create the “play to win” model we see with Axie Infinity. Users are ready to pay for the tokens and farmers are ready to farm them. By creating relatively simple methods for farming SLP, anyone with a team of Axies can start making money.

How to get started with Axie Infinity using the Ronin Gateway

If you want to buy your first team of Axies, you will need to get some ETH in your Ronin wallet. Since Ronin is a sidechain, you will also need to wrap your ETH (WETH) with the Ronin gateway. The process requires three main steps:

1. Buy ETH from an exchange like Binance.

2. Transfer your ETH with the Ronin gateway.

3. Access the Axie Marketplace with your WETH.

For the first step, make sure that you have already created a Binance account and have completed the KYC and AML procedures.

How to buy and transfer ETH to your Ronin wallet

1. Log in to your Binance account and click on the [Trader] tab. Choose [classic] or [advanced] trading view.

2. Hover over the trading pair displayed on the left of the screen and type ETH in the search bar. Choose a suitable ETH pair, in our case [ETH/BUSD].

3. Buy your ETH with the order type of your choice. We chose the simplest method using a Market order. Click [Buy ETH] to place the order.

How to transfer ETH with Ronin Gateway

1. First, you will need to create a crypto wallet if you don't already have one. Specifically, you'll need a wallet that can connect to DApps. MetaMask or Binance Chain Wallet are both good choices.

2. To start transferring your ETH, hover over the [Wallet] menu tab and select [Fiat & Spot].

3. Search for ETH and click [Withdraw].

4. Paste the Ethereum ERC-20 address you want to withdraw to. This is the deposit address of your external wallet.

5. Click [Network] and choose [Ethereum (ERC20)].

6. Review the transaction details and click [Withdraw] to send your ETH.

7. Next, create a Ronin wallet. Note that it is only available as a browser extension and not a desktop client. Beware of scams. Ronin is not yet available for mobile users.

8. Go to the Ronin Bridge website and click [Deposit]. Log in to MetaMask using the pop-up window that appears.

9. Click [Next] to connect your wallet.

10. Copy your Ronin wallet address into the [Ronin Address] field.

11. Select the asset you want to deposit by clicking [Asset]. In our example, we will deposit ETH.

12. Finally, click [Next] at the bottom of the page to confirm your information and transfer your tokens to your Ronin wallet.

13. Before you can play, you need to create your Axie team. Log in to the Axie marketplace and choose the Ronin Wallet option. You will need to do this if you have never created an Axie account before. If this is your first time logging in, you'll find instructions for opening one.

How to buy an Axie on the Axie Marketplace

1. On the Marketplace, choose an Axie you want to purchase. Click on their avatar to find out their stats and other information. You can also use the filters on the left to make your search easier. If you're unfamiliar with the game's mechanics, we recommend doing some research before purchasing your first Axies.

2. On an Axie's individual page, click the [Buy now] button to complete the purchase. You will need to confirm the transaction using your Ronin wallet extension.

Remember that a complete team is made up of three Axies. There are strategies and guides for building a team in the Axie Infinity community. So be sure to do some research before spending your money.

How to download Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is available for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. The best way to install the game is to go to the Axie Infinity homepage and click the [READ NOW] button in the upper right corner.

This will automatically download a client for your desktop or laptop. Note that if you choose the iOS version for your iPhone, you will need to enable TestFlight on your device. This will allow you to install applications currently under development. For Android, you will need to install the downloaded .apk file from the overview screen.

Each Axie is a small fantasy creature made up of a combination of different attributes and characteristics. Here's their class, stats, and body parts. As of October 2021, there are 9 different classes of Axies.

What are the base classes of Axies?

Axie Infinity has nine classes, three of which are special classes (shown below in bold) with no unique body parts or class cards.

An Axie's class is an important part of how they fight. Each class has a weakness against another class type, but is stronger against others. The cards are also associated with specific classes, giving them a 10% attack bonus when using the card against weak types.

For example, Aquatic, Bird, or Aurora Axies deal extra damage against Bug, Beast, or Mech Axies, but they take extra damage from Plant, Reptile, and Twilight classes. In other words, the classes in group 1 are strong against group 2, but weak against group 3. The axies in group 2 are strong against group 3 but weak against group 1. Finally, the axies in group 3 are strong against group 1 but weak against group 2, which closes the cycle.

What are Axie's abilities/cards?

There are 132 cards in Axie Infinity associated with six of the nine available classes. You can also divide the cards based on the body parts involved, their range, and their cost. Even though any Axie class can use a card, there is additional damage if it is associated with its specific class.

What are Axie body parts?

Each axie has a combination of six body parts: ears, eye, horn, back, mouth and tail. The last four determine the exact cards your Axies can use in battle, and each also affects the creature's stats.

How much does it cost to start playing Axie Infinity?

As of October 2021, the cheapest Axies cost around US$130 (in WETH). Your Axie team will have three creatures, which means you can count on around $390. The best way to see how much it costs to start playing is to go to the Axie Marketplace and sort by price.

How to get free Axies through exchanges

There are two possible ways to get free Axies. First, you can get scholarships from other players that provide free teams. Each scholar will then give the donor a share of the Smooth Love Potion they have earned. This is a popular method because users can only have one Axie account. Therefore, it makes sense for people to use their axies.

Purses are provided and managed by other players, not the Axie Infinity team. You must therefore be careful when deciding to accept one. CoinGecko is a place where you can track available exchanges. Once you have your team, you can use it to fight in Arena or Adventure mode. Note that only the owner of the Axie (the exchange manager) can claim the SLP tokens you farm, and it is up to them to send you your share. In most cases, traders and managers divide the earnings into two equal parts.

Another method is to wait until Battles Version 2.0 is released. This update will unlock new game modes that will allow users to fight with a free Axie. However, these creatures cannot earn tokens to sell. If you want to use Axie Infinity as a game to generate profit, you will still need to purchase the team yourself or obtain a scholarship.

What affects Axies prices?

Prices for axies can range from around $130 to even over $100,000. While their value depends primarily on their power and usefulness in the game, there is also a lot of speculation. Original Axies from the early days of the game are generally worth more. There are also more colorful and particularly rare mythical axies. In general, the rarest attributes also offer the most in-game utility and command higher prices. With the immense popularity of Axie Infinity, the creature market is now affected not only by gamers, but also by NFT collectors.

How to start farming SLP on Axie Infinity?

Users can collect SLP in Arena Matches (PvP) or Adventure Mode (PvE). Struggling in these two activities will cost you energy. Once your energy is exhausted, you will only be able to complete adventures to farm SLP.

The amount of energy you have depends on the number of Axies you have. You can see how much energy you have in the game's main menu at the top of the screen.

1. Daily quests will reward you with 25 SLP. These tasks involve logging in daily, completing 10 levels in Adventure Mode, and winning 5 Arena matches.

2. Adventure mode (PvE) allows you to earn up to 50 SLP per day. The specific amount changes depending on the level you play. The first time you play a level, you will receive SLP. However, future games of a certain level will not earn SLP with certainty. Defeating a boss can also earn you SLP.

3. Arena (PvP) has you fighting other players based on your ranking. Your ranking also changes the number of SLPs you earn per victory. Each match costs energy. The amount of SPL you earn in a day therefore depends on how many matches you play using energy.

Note that you can still play the game even if you run out of energy. However, PvP matches will not give you SLP rewards, and PvE matches will not give you experience. But you can still climb the leaderboards or do daily quests.

How to claim your SLP from Axie Infinity

Once you have acquired the SLP, you must claim it manually. You can only request your SLP once every 14 days.

1. On the Axie Infinity homepage, connect your Ronin wallet and select [Claim Tokens] from the menu. Then click on [Claim SLP] to transfer the tokens to your Ronin wallet.

2. Go to your account and make sure your Ronin wallet is connected. Click on [Claim Tokens] in the menu and then on [Claim SLP].

3. At this point you can then transfer your SLP to your Ethereum wallet if you wish to sell it. You can also send it directly to your Ronin Binance wallet to avoid paying Ethereum gas fees.

What are Axie lands?

Axie lands are plots of land in Lunacia, the world where Axie creatures live. The universe consists of a 301x301 grid which will be sold in several installments. 25% is on sale in the first sale, and prices will increase by 10% in subsequent sales.

Pink squares host events from around the world, dungeons, chimera spawn locations, and public resource nodes. The map also contains an area known as Luna Landing for content creators and roads for travel. Chests containing land types are purchasable, and multiple chests purchased together will contain lands in adjacent spaces.

How to buy and transfer AXS to your Ronin wallet

AXS can be used for governance, staking or farming. If you are a breeder or want to start breeding Axies, you can send AXS directly from Binance to your Ronin wallet without going through the Ronin gateway. This will allow you to save on Ethereum gas fees because you can skip the step of transferring to an external wallet. Just like ETH, AXS can be purchased on Binance.

1. First, log in to your Binance account, hover over [Trader] and choose [Classic] or [Advanced] view.

2. Next, hover over the displayed trading pair and type AXS in the drop-down menu. Select one of the pairs. In our example, we will use [AXS/BUSD].

3. Choose the order type and enter the amount. We opted for a simple Market order. Click [Buy AXS] when you have confirmed your order details.

4. To start withdrawing funds to your Ronin wallet, hover over the [Wallet] button and select [Fiat & Spot].

5. Search for AXS and click [Withdrawal].

6. Select the [Network] field.

7. Choose the Ronin network from the list.

8. Be sure to read and understand the displayed warning. You will need to replace the ronin: prefix with 0x before continuing.

9. Finally, enter the amount you want to send and click [Withdraw].

10. Once you withdraw, your AXS or WETH should appear in your Ronin wallet. You can then use the tokens for breeding or purchasing axies on the marketplace.
