Résumé

MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet application and browser extension that is by default connected to the Ethereum mainnet. To download the extension, you can go to the official MetaMask website.

In addition to Ethereum, Metamask can also interact with other networks like Fantom. To do this, you must provide information to MetaMask. This includes a custom RPC URL, channel ID, and network name. Then, you will be able to add Fantom tokens once you have imported the token address.

It is important to know how to add new blockchains to MetaMask, which is necessary for other EVM networks like BNB Smart Chain.

Introduction

To get started, you will first need a supported crypto wallet (e.g. MetaMask). Note that Fantom is not a default network on MetaMask. However, you can easily configure your browser wallet to connect to Fantom in just a few minutes.

Installation et configuration de MetaMask

1. Download and install MetaMask extension on Chrome, iOS or Android via MetaMask official website. To ensure you download the real version, make sure you are on the official MetaMask website.

2. Once you have downloaded and installed the extension, click [Get Started] on the MetaMask home page.

3. For new wallet users, click [Create Wallet]. If you already have a wallet, you can import it using the mnemonic phrase with the [Import Wallet] option.

4. MetaMask will ask you if you want to improve the extension by sharing anonymous usage data. Accepting or declining this will not affect your use of MetaMask.

5. Create a secure password. It will allow you to connect to your wallet. Note that this is not your recovery phrase. The password protects your wallet from anyone who wants to use your device. The recovery phrase allows you to access your cryptocurrency even if you forget your password.

6. Now that you have created your password, MetaMask will provide you with important information about your recovery phrase. If you are new to crypto wallets, be sure to read this section and watch the video before continuing.

7. Next, click the padlock to receive your 12-word recovery phrase. Write the words in the correct order and store them in a safe place (preferably offline). You should never share your recovery phrase with anyone. If you lose access, the seed phrase is the last backup of your account. Tap [Next] to continue.

8. Confirm your recovery phrase by selecting the words at the bottom of the screen in the correct order. Once done, click [Confirm].

9. You have finished setting up your MetaMask wallet. To start using your wallet, click [Done].

10. To easily access it, click the puzzle icon in the Chrome browser to pin MetaMask to your toolbar. By default, Metamask is only connected to Ethereum. In the next section, you will learn how to connect MetaMask to Fantom.

Wallet setup

1. You will need to provide network details to add Fantom support to your MetaMask wallet. First, open MetaMask and click on the network drop-down menu.

2. Then click [Add Network] in the pop-up window.

3. On the [Add Network] page, add the following details. Click [Save] when finished.

Network name

Phantom

New RPC URL

Choose one of the following options:

https://rpc.ftm.tools

https://rpc.fantom.network

https://rpc2.fantom.network

https://rpc3.fantom.network

Channel ID

250

Currency symbol

FTM

Block Explorer URL

https://ftmscan.com/

4. You have successfully connected to the Fantom network.

Adding Fantom tokens to MetaMask

Adding Fantom tokens other than FTM will have to be done manually. Note that your wallet may still receive tokens that have not been imported.

1. Go to FTMScan and find the contract and token details you want to add. If the token is not on FTMScan, be sure to get the contract address from the official project website or social media. Users should be wary of fake contracts created by scammers.

2. Return to MetaMask and click [Import Tokens].

3. Copy the token contract address and MetaMask should automatically fill in the rest of the details. Add them manually if the information is not provided. Click [Add custom token] to finish.

4. Click [Import tokens].

5. Your wallet will now display the token you added with the correct balance.

To conclude

Once Fantom is set up on your MetaMask, you can start transacting, collecting NFTs, interacting with DeFi DApps, and managing your crypto. Additionally, you can trade tokens from the extension. The MetaMask wallet is not exclusive to the Ethereum network or Fantom. It can also be connected to other networks compatible with the entire Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). We can cite BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Avalanche and Harmony as examples. With our step-by-step guide, you are now ready to add other blockchains and discover them.
