The blockchain industry has not been without its growing pains, but has been steadily maturing amid the global political and economic turmoil of the past decade. Today, the impact of shifts in global markets and supply chain uncertainty has exposed many weaknesses in our traditional financial and business architecture. Blockchain offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve these traditional flaws by making the most timely upgrades. Every adversity contains opportunities and seeds of growth.
Against this global backdrop, the EOS network has continued to grow, innovate itself, integrate life experiences, gain independence, and advance on its evolutionary path to becoming the premier blockchain ecosystem for interactive innovation.
The EOS Network Foundation (ENF) did not emerge with the EOS network. It was officially born in mid-2021 because the EOS network urgently needed a reliable entity to coordinate resources from all parties to encourage the growth and development of the EOS network. Just one year ago, at the beginning of 2022, the ENF core team consisted of only three people who believed that the EOS network had a chance to break free from the chaos of neglect and uncertainty that had been hindering its development.
We now head into 2023 with 40+ talented and passionate team members. I am deeply proud of the incredible team we have assembled to serve the EOS community. With a full complement of operations, engineering, communications, marketing, and developer relations, our team has evolved into a highly capable organization that can execute and sustain a variety of initiatives, able to provide the foundational support and infrastructure that#TheNewEOScan rely on in the future. Now more resilient, diverse, coordinated, and global than ever before, ENF is ready to re-establish EOS as a leader in the Web3 ecosystem.
Our primary goal for 2022 is to lay the foundation for sustainable funding of the EOS network. Just a year ago, it was nearly impossible to get funding to build on EOS. However, this has changed significantly. Thanks to the efforts of ENF, EOS community members now have multiple ways to access funding. These include Pomelo Grants, ENF Direct Grants, Hackathons, and the emerging EOS Network Ventures (ENV), which will be responsible for managing a $100 million+ venture capital fund and focusing on innovation within EOS.
A key milestone in 2022 is facilitating the re-emergence of the EOS network as a community-led DAO that can maintain its sovereignty and protect itself from powerful corporate interests. On September 21, 2022, with the support of ENF’s skilled team of engineers, a growing network of technical partners, project managers, and key members of the developer ecosystem, the EOS network officially declared independence through a non-contentious hard fork of the community-led and maintained Antelope codebase.
Never doubt that a small number of thoughtful and determined people can change the world; in fact, the world often changes for these people.
— Margaret Mead [ EOS Genesis Block Memo ]
After driving the codebase to become a fully open source and independent framework for multiple Antelope-based blockchains working alongside the EOS network, ENF will continue its efforts to strengthen collaboration through the Antelope Alliance. With over $10 million invested in the Antelope codebase, RFPs, additional tooling, and operational support, ENF continues to be a driving force behind the development of the ecosystem.
With game-changing technologies like Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) and Instant Finality emerging, the entire Antelope family of blockchains, with EOS as a key element, is poised to deliver a truly resilient and scalable solution for dApps in Web3 and beyond.
As our network finds its footing again and momentum builds, EOS is beginning to make its presence felt at cryptocurrency conferences around the world. We are sharing a unique story of a network taking control of its own destiny, embodying the spirit of Web3, at the world’s leading cryptocurrency events. We intend to continue to build on our outreach efforts in 2023 by hosting more events around the world and continuing to work with our amazing community.
For ENF, in addition to focusing on the foundational development of our future success as a network, we are now beginning to iterate, improve, and work harder on this foundation. Our network is both unique and better positioned than ever to meet the needs of emerging markets for a truly capable, user-friendly, and fully functional blockchain ecosystem. In 2023, we will look to leverage the extraordinary capabilities of EOS to make it the hub of GameFi.
2023 is going to be an exciting year for EOS! I’m sure you’ll join us as we work to accelerate humanity’s experience of the possibilities of Web3.
Sincerely,
Salute! — Yves La Rose
About EOS
The EOS network is a model for the blockchain 3.0 era and is powered by EOS VM. EOS VM is a low-latency, high-performance and scalable WebAssembly engine that enables deterministic transaction execution with near-invisibility. The EOS network is designed for Web 3 and is committed to achieving the best Web 3 user and developer experience. EOS is the flagship blockchain and financial center of the Antelope protocol, and through the EOS Network Foundation (ENF) as a tool for multi-chain collaboration and the development of public infrastructure products, it further improves the infrastructure and drives the rapid development of EOS.
EOS Network Foundation
The EOS Network Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to listen to the community’s voice, convey the community’s wishes and support the development of high-quality community projects. It aims to become an information sharing bridge for the EOS community and provide key infrastructure support such as funding, technology, operations, future planning, and ecosystem construction for the EOS ecosystem, further unleashing the full potential of EOS as the world’s fastest governance blockchain.
