🗞️ The White House has been approached by more than 50 countries interested in starting trade negotiations following the recent imposition of tariffs on imports by President Donald Trump. The information was disclosed by Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, during an interview with ABC News.

The tariffs, announced last Wednesday, provoked immediate reactions in the markets and led China to adopt retaliatory measures, increasing fears of a trade war and even a possible recession. Despite the strong market reaction with a drop of approximately 10% in American stocks in just two days, government members are trying to convey a message of control and strategy.
According to Hassett, the goal of the tariffs would be to reposition the United States more fairly in the global trade balance. He denied that there was any attempt to politically influence the Federal Reserve, after a video shared by Trump suggested that the tariffs aimed to pressure the central bank to cut interest rates.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also downplayed the negative impacts, stating to NBC News that there are no signs of a recession on the horizon. He highlighted the stronger-than-expected job growth as an indication that the American economy continues on a positive trajectory.
Taiwan, for example, has already taken the initiative by proposing zero tariffs as a starting point for negotiations with the US, while also committing to increase investments from its companies in American territory.
While the market remains volatile and investors remain cautious, the Trump administration is trying to position the tariffs as a strategic negotiation opportunity, even though their practical effects in the short term generate global discomfort.
