According to Wu, after more than two years of discussion, Uruguay officially passed the cryptocurrency bill, recognizing cryptocurrencies as virtual assets and identifying the Central Bank of Uruguay as the regulator of virtual asset service providers (VASPs).
The law puts Uruguay at the forefront of Latin America’s regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.
