According to PANews, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has clarified the purpose of Plasma on platform X. He stated that Plasma is not designed to prevent invalid or unavailable state transitions. Instead, it allows users with valuable assets to exit using the previous (valid and available) state when such a situation arises. This is done in a way that has consistent rules to prevent any double exit of assets.
In November of the previous year, Buterin had written an article titled 'EVM Verification Exit Games: The Return of Plasma.' He suggested that Plasma is an underestimated design space, and proof of validity could potentially address the challenges it faces.
