Our journey began with the creation of the ICP 8YearGang Faith Group in March 2022. At that time, the community was experiencing an ICProposal NFT scam, many people were hurt, and there was no place to speak freely on OpenChat. At this time, the ICP 8YearGang Faith Group was created.

Because of the experience of previous failed groups, we must answer three soul-searching questions at the beginning:

After we thought through these three questions, we quickly wrote our group introduction.
who are we?
We come from the "ICP 8yeargang Faith Group", the largest Chinese community on OpenChat. We are a group of NFH (Non-Fungible Human) who love IC, respect differences, and encourage two-way exploration of inward (philosophy) and outward (knowledge). Any member who publicly discloses his or her 8-year staking proof can become a group manager, and eventually the community will achieve fully decentralized management.

What are we doing?
We are building a spiritual home that truly belongs to the ICP 8yeargang community. We believe that: the purpose is not just to make money, but also to explore and learn; we are not in a hurry to reject expansion, but are more willing to share the same ideals; we do not blindly chase the trend, but encourage interest.
Where are we going?
ICP 8yeargang is a piece of soil that breeds the seeds of freedom and truth. Here, every inch of sunlight is fair. We cannot imagine what these seeds will grow into in the future.
Naming neurons
IC NNS's staking rewards are different from those of other POS blockchains. To get rewards, it is not only about staking tokens, but more importantly, it is about participating in NNS governance. Of course, users can choose to follow named neurons to vote. In the initial stage, only Dfinity officials and ICA can follow, and then a few well-known communities will join.
We believe that if IC's NNS wants to become a truly decentralized platform, the governance of NNS must be decentralized, and the way to achieve this goal is to decentralize the objects followed by named neurons. As a loyal believer of ICP who has pledged for 8 years, there is nothing more sacred than deeply participating in the governance of NNS. As the largest community of OpenChat, it is our responsibility to lead the entire community members to deeply participate in the daily governance of NNS. Specifically, we will:
Educate all members on each NNS proposal and serve as a bridge between NNS and the community;
Answer questions from members;
The community voting consensus is finally formed through the voting of community representatives;
Gather the wisdom of the community and put forward proposals that are valuable to the ecology.
We believe that it is crucial for 8YearGangDAO to become a named neuron because we always look at governance issues from both a macro (top-down) and community (bottom-up) perspective. Because of this unique perspective, we hope to gain the recognition of the IC community and become an important representative force for the public to participate in NNS governance.
After several rounds of discussions in our community meetings, we were finally voted in by NNS to become the new named neuron.

Community building and governance
When we had this spirit, group members quickly gathered here. The rapid increase in the number of group members made us very happy. The reason was simple. I think we did a few things right:
Sincere attitude
Diverse information sharing
Democratized community management
Relaxed and free atmosphere
To date, the 8YearGang faith group has always been among the most active in OpenChat, with more than 150,000 messages sent.
However, as our number of members continues to grow, we are increasingly dissatisfied with just a few words of conversation. Since we are loyal fans of IC, IC also has the world's largest DAO organization NNS, which issues new governance proposals every day. However, these proposals are too difficult for ordinary users, especially those in the Chinese community. Many people simply follow Dfinity or ICA and know nothing about the meaning, background, and impact of the proposals.
Several of us DAO members realized that we should invest more of our time in IC governance, which is the value of our organization. So we started to participate in governance by translating. In fact, translation is a relatively simple task. What is more important is to understand the meaning of the proposal and explore the subsequent impact. We later realized that we should also actively participate in the discussion of the Dfinity forum. After all, this is the birthplace of the proposal. Many ideas are proposed in the forum and submitted to NNS after being modified by many community experts.
So far, we have participated in the translation and dissemination of 25 proposals. The processes of two proposals left a deep impression on me:
1. The proposal 80970 is of great significance, but many users did not understand the background knowledge and characteristics of this proposal in the early stage and were very opposed to it. After we explained the proposal in great detail and communicated with everyone in the community, everyone fully affirmed this proposal.

2. After the 80639 proposal came out, it was difficult for users without the corresponding knowledge to understand this proposal because it required a high level of technical background knowledge. They knew very little about its advantages, disadvantages and impacts. Such a proposal was too difficult for ordinary stakers. In response to this proposal, several of our DAO members with technical backgrounds worked together, consulted a lot of information, and finally explained the technical background and process of this proposal to the community in easy-to-understand terms, which ultimately achieved very good results.

Web3 Exploration
As community building continues to move forward, the community needs incentives and a more solid consensus. In order to truly practice the spirit of Web3, we began to consider issuing a set of NFTs through DAO as DAO member credentials.
We have done a lot of discussions on how to develop a set of NFTs that represent the spirit and temperament of the 8YearGang, how to empower NFTs, and how to establish a fair governance and reward mechanism. Finally, after hard work and cooperation with the design team, we finally determined the design: SoulWarrior. We believe that it not only reflects the spirit of the 8-year pledgers who are unyielding and brave enough to challenge, and the spirit of fighting for fairness and justice from both the spiritual and design levels. We will release more introductions about SoulWarrior NFT in the near future.
In the future, SoulWarrior will launch in-depth cooperation with IC ecosystem platforms such as OpenChat, DSCVR, and Distrikt. We hope that SoulWarrior will be the totem of every 8YearGang and realize the promise of our slogan: create value for every 8YearGang!
