The "Sophon" in the science fiction novel "The Three-Body Problem" has come to reality, and the BRC-20 ecology encounters a sniper robot! 😮

Recently, a sniper robot named “Sophon” appeared in the BRC-20 ecosystem and was deployed by Bitcoin developer Rijndael (@rot13maxi). When this robot discovers a new BRC-20 token deployment in the mempool, it will preemptively deploy the token with the same name and set the supply to 1 so that others cannot obtain the newly deployed token. Although Rijndael announced the discontinuation of Sophon operations on October 27, similar sniper robots began to operate in the mempool of BRC-20.

The existence of Sophon has received mixed reviews from the community. Some people think it is a benefit to the already deployed BRC-20 tokens, while others say it is the revenge of Bitcoin OG to protect Bitcoin from BRC20 dust attacks. But Rijndael said his goal in deploying Sophon was to prove to BRC-20 proponents that using Bitcoin as a "global namespace based on block inclusion ordering is a vulnerable mechanism."

It is worth noting that the existence of Sophon has also led to discussions in the community about Bitcoin MEV and Private Mempool. BRC-20's mempool operating rules - open transactions, first come first served - will bring MEV if exploited. So what happens when more than one Sophon-like jump-start robot appears in the BRC-20's mempool?
