Julia Leung, chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, said that retail investors in Hong Kong will only be able to access "highly liquid" virtual assets.

Julia Leung told the Asian Financial Forum on Wednesday that the SFC will release a consultation paper this quarter detailing the products and conditions for retail investors to trade virtual assets, as well as licensing requirements for virtual asset trading platforms.

“Some virtual asset platforms have more than 2,000 tokens, but we do not intend to allow retail investors to access all products. We will set standards to allow retail investors to trade only major virtual assets,” said Julia Leung.
