The UAE Cabinet, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the UAE’s position on the international artificial intelligence policy. The decision was made as a result of cooperation between the Office of the Assistant Minister for Science and Technology at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.
This achievement comes within the framework of the state’s comprehensive foreign policy, which aims to enhance integration in facing global challenges related to artificial intelligence.
In this regard, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, stressed that the UAE government plays a leading global role in formulating AI governance frameworks and international policies. He pointed out that the UAE is proactively contributing to global multilateral platforms, with the aim of promoting an effective and responsible AI sector.
He added that the UAE plays a proactive and active role in the governance of artificial intelligence at the international level, through its effective participation in international policy discussions related to artificial intelligence, and contributing to the development of global standards and governance frameworks for this sector. He explained that the importance of this policy lies in consolidating the UAE’s leadership on the global stage in the field of artificial intelligence, in line with the principles of promoting technological progress and improving the quality of life of society.
In turn, His Excellency Omran Sharaf, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Advanced Science and Technology, stressed that the UAE’s adoption of policies that support artificial intelligence enhances its position as a global leader in this field. He pointed out that these policies contribute to deepening trust between the UAE and its strategic partners.
Sharaf stressed the importance of international partnerships in enabling the country to lead global efforts to set standards and regulations for the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence. He explained that these partnerships will help achieve the UAE’s ambitious goals in the field of innovation and development in this vital sector.
He added that aligning the UAE’s foreign policy with international standards for artificial intelligence will give local entities, whether governmental or private, the ability to deal with global challenges related to artificial intelligence with confidence and competence.
The AI policy is based on six key principles: progress, collaboration, community, ethics, sustainability, and safety. These principles embody a commitment to ensuring that the development of AI in the UAE is aligned with ethical, social, and environmental priorities.
This policy represents a strategic extension of the UAE Charter for Artificial Intelligence, which enhances practices for using and developing this technology, and provides a strategic framework that links the UAE’s national goals with its international aspirations.
The policy also aims to harness artificial intelligence to drive economic diversification and innovation, as well as encourage the development of high-impact technological solutions that support sustainable growth across sectors.
