Cybersecurity firm Doctor Web reported on Oct. 8 that it had detected malware masquerading as legitimate software, such as office suites, game cheats, and online trading bots. The malware affected more than 28,000 users, mostly in Russia, as well as Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey.

The hackers were able to seize only about $6,000 worth of cryptocurrency. The malware was spread through fake links in GitHub pages and YouTube video descriptions.
