This is Peter Todd
HBO Just Revealed It's Satoshi Nakamoto
Here's what HBO got wrong and why it matters for your Bitcoin:
Let's start by looking at HBO's statements.
Next, we'll go through each of them...
“Todd used a pseudonym to give credibility to Bitcoin”
In 2008, Todd had just completed a degree in fine arts
He wasn't even in the crypto world yet.
There was no reason for him to need a pseudonym: he wasn't a well-known personality and Bitcoin wasn't on his radar until 2012.
A BitcoinTalk post from 2010..."
HBO Suggests Peter Todd Accidentally Revealed Himself as Satoshi by Forgetting to Switch Accounts
A follow-up post a few minutes later would make sense, but a post 13 hours later feels more like a simple comment.
Replacement fee connection (RBF)
Peter Todd introduced RBF in 2014, years after Bitcoin was created
HBO's claim that this was somehow pre-planned by Satoshi is an exaggeration.
This was just one of many technical improvements Peter made after Satoshi left.
Finally, the cryptic message about the “sacrifice” of bitcoins
It was a joke taken out of context.
Todd referred to the proof of the integrity of the blockchain, without admitting to destroying access to Satoshi's 1.1 million BTC
A very far-fetched exaggeration...
Bottom line: HBO documentary has an interesting theory, but the facts don't add up.
Peter contributed to Bitcoin but did not create it.
Todd consistently denies being Satoshi, including today.
Peter Todd's influence on Bitcoin is undeniable
It introduced fee replacement, improved privacy, and launched OpenTimestamps
He also worked on the first NFTs (colored coins)
These are major contributions, but not to the creation of Bitcoin.
Why would HBO claim Peter Todd is Satoshi?
It's about telling a story.
Cullen Hoback's documentary speculates on the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto.
It adds intrigue but doesn't change the reality: Todd is not Satoshi.
This is a story, not a fact.
Knowing the whole story, do you think HBO might be right or was it just a bad theory?
