According to ChainCatcher, on-chain data shows that CryptoPunk 1563 was "traded" for 24,000 ETH (worth nearly $56.3 million) through a flash loan. In practice, in one transaction, the "buyer" of the NFT borrowed 24,000 ETH from the DeFi protocol Balancer, and then the "seller" repaid the loan to Balancer. No one made money during the transaction, but the transaction executor actually paid the network fee, and the NFT was indeed transferred between wallets.
Anonymous on-chain detective 0xQuit said the flash loan was apparently related to an upcoming meme coin called "Kamala Harris Punk," and the sale appeared to be a stunt to drum up interest in the token's presale.
