Odaily Planet Daily reported that the government of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, recently announced that local law enforcement agencies have joined forces with energy officials to crack down on illegal cryptocurrency mining activities. An illegal cryptocurrency mining farm with 17 mining machines was found several meters underground in the capital city of Makhachkala. 💡

According to a message released by the Minister of the Cabinet of Dagestan via Telegram, these mines are operated by "energy thieves" and underground mines and mobile mining units have been established in multiple locations. Illegal miners were blamed for the fire at the 110 kV Novaya substation earlier this month, which caused power outages in parts of the capital for several days. ⚡

The police worked with Dagenergo, the North Caucasus branch of Rossetti, a Russian state-owned electricity supplier, to close other undisclosed illegal mines. Dagenergo confirmed that the substation fire was caused by a sharp increase in electricity consumption. The government will invest about 3 billion rubles (about 32.5 million US dollars) in the repair of energy facilities. 🔧

Although cryptocurrency mining has received much attention worldwide, illegal mining activities are still a problem that needs to be addressed. As the leader of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin still maintains an optimistic outlook in the market. 🚀
