The government of the United Arab Emirates recently announced the release of a white paper emphasizing the potential of the metaverse and the "need for international society to strengthen readiness" in the field. In this 35-page white paper, the author emphasizes the importance of self-regulation and why international cooperation is needed. The author of the white paper concludes that establishing common minimum self-discipline principles through international cooperation is one possible way to address this challenge. Through joint efforts and the adoption of effective and fair self-discipline measures to promote the safety and security of metaverse users, the international community (i.e. governments, industries, and civil society) can help establish a global framework to promote responsible and sustainable growth of the metaverse.
